Would you use a baby hammock?
There is one baby item that I've always wanted to try. But every time there's been a newborn in the house, I find myself sticking with the same routines and same gear I've always used.
But still, I'm completely intrigued and would love to try (if/when there's ever another baby in this house) a Kanoe Baby Hammock.

The idea behind baby hammocks is that they create a soothing, motion-sensitive environment for babies–similar to being rocked and cradled in a mother's arms. The gentle rocking motion and cradling with no pressure points can aid in settling fussy babies and help improve sleep. Different than the simple back and forth of an electric baby swing, the motion created by a hammock claims to be more effective, soothing and safe.

Kanoe Baby Hammocks are made from 100% organic materials and are suspended by a specific series of hardware–including a hardwood spreader bar, extension straps and spring. And when installed properly, and for proper freedom of movement, they require roughly 28 inches of space from walls or other objects. As your child grows older (up to 2 years of age), the Kanoe site recommends moving the hammock closer to the ground to allow your child to safely climb in and out. At this point, I'd imagine your child would have transitioned to a crib, but I can see the hammock as still being a soothing comfortable place for your child to relax, rest and play quietly.
And if you're a family of hard-core campers or you just want the flexibility to have your baby outdoors, an extension strap can be purchased that allows you to attach the hammock safely to a tree. And I have to admit, I can get a little romantic about the idea of baby sleeping under the trees in the fresh air while play and work outside…
So what do you think? Have you ever tried a Kanoe baby hammock or something similar? I'd love to hear from some hammock-moms! Would you recommend them to other mothers?
