インターネットオークションは、インターネットを利用した電子商取引で、インターネットを介して競売（オークション）を行うこと。ネットオークションと略称されることもある。

だが、アメリカはAmazon.comに代表される企業 - 個人間の電子商取引の充実に伴い、ネットオークションは当初の勢いを失っているという。消費者は、欲しいものであれば多少の値引きと引き替えにオークションに時間を取られることよりも、固定価格で手間をかけずに素早く購入できる買い物を望むようになっている。その結果、電子商取引において、ネットオークションよりも固定価格による商品販売の方が、売上が伸びている[1]。
日本ではYahoo!オークション（運営：ヤフージャパン 1999年9月サービス開始）が最大手のサイトとなっており、他に楽天やビッダーズなどの検索サイトやオンラインショッピングサイトが独自のサービスを展開、利用者を集めている。ネットオークションサイト世界最大規模のeBay（イーベイ）も2001年に日本へ進出したが、先行していたYahoo!オークションに太刀打ちできず、不振で翌2002年3月で日本から撤退した。その後、eBayは2007年12月にYahoo!オークションと提携を行った。
近年ではKDDIがauオークションを提供し、NTTドコモもオークション事業に進出するなど、携帯電話によるオークションも活発化している。ただ、携帯電話用オークション最大手のスーパーガールズオークション（略称ガルオク。株式会社ガールズオークションが運営）で「出品されているルイ・ヴィトンの9割以上に偽造品の可能性[2]」との指摘があるなど、ヤフーや楽天といった従来の企業に比べ運営者の管理が甘いといった問題への指摘がある[2]。
Yahoo!オークションは利用者が多く、平均して942万件（2006年3月現在）にのぼる物品が出品されている[3]。2002年には出品手数料及び落札手数料が導入され、2006年には出品手数料が3%から5%に引き上げられたが、それでもなお利用者は大幅には減っていない。

私も何度も足を運んだことがありますが、あの有名なヨドバシカメラ、ビックカメラなどの
量販店も実はこれらの店を利用している時があります。
これらの店は他店より１０００円でも高く仕入れて１０００円でも安く売るというかなりの
薄利多売の商売をしているようです。
私もかなり儲けさしていただきましたし、信頼できる店舗さんばかりでした。

最近は中国人、韓国人の経営する店も増えてきているようです。
以前は中国人などからの盗品を扱っている店もありましたが警察の摘発にあい潰れてしまいました。

そのような商品は最新作であることは少ないと思います。
システム会社から流れる商品は最新作がほとんどだと思います。
最初に信頼されれば評判なども広がり相手から売り込みが来るようになります。
私も最初は相場より高く買って名前などを憶えてもらいました。
ただ、どのメーカも新作を発売する時期が同じなどで、資金をしっかりと持っていないといけません。
法人にするなりして資金を確保してください。
買ったパソコンはネットで販売すればすぐに売れると思います。
ネットで売れる商品の多くがパソコン関連という統計も出ています。
私が、楽天に出店していたころは、ページに商品をアップすると、
価格comに代表されるような価格比較サイトを運営している人たち、
この人たちは、常に家電販売のサイトをチェックしています。
私も最初、楽天のトラッキングでアクセス数を調べていたとき、ある人が何時間にもわたり、
私の店舗サイトを見ているのに驚きました。
ページビュウーも一人で1,000近くページをみていたのです。
(１人平均３ページが普通)もの好きがいるなと思っていたのですが、
あとからそれらのアクセスは価格比較サイトの価格を調べている人だとわかりました。
そして、トラッキングのどのサイトから来たかという項目を調べますと、
その価格比較サイトから来ているということが分かりました。商品を集めることができるようになったら、
自分でホームページを作って、価格比較サイトに問い合わせなどをして掲載されるようにしてください。
別に綺麗なページである必要はありません。
価格comなどの有名店舗なども、綺麗と言えるものは少ないと思います。
商品名と値段と信用があれば大丈夫。ブランド品と同じく、パソコンは大変よく売れる商品だと思います。
